Frequently asked questions

What is a timebank?

A timebank is formed when a group of people  agree to exchange skills and sometimes goods using time instead of money as a currency.  These exchanges are recorded in a timebank and you can then spend them on other skills and goods when you are ready.

One hour helping earns one time-credit

In timebanking everyone’s time is equally valued so one hour of work earns one time credit regardless of the actual service you provide. Everyone’s time is valued equally. In the monetary world people’s time time is valued very unequally and has consequently created a very unequal world.

Meeting social needs in your community

Timebanks benefit participants by creating a way to ask for help, no matter if the task is large or small. Timebanking creates a network of people where you can learn about skills and talents available in your community.
